Schwanengesang
2010/03/12~2010/03/14
Introduction
production & Choreography/LIN Mei Hong、Music/Michael Erhard、Stage & costumes Design/Thomas Gruber、Performed by Tanztheater des Staatstheaters Darmstadt

Choreographer LIN Mei-Hong and Tanztheater des Staatstheaters Darmstadt of Germany bring their latest works Schwanengesang(Swan Song). Inspired by the Belgian poet George Rodenbach and his symbolist novel Bruges-la-Morte, this dance piece probes into the mind of a distressed widower. Shortly after his wife’s death, Hugo Viane relocates to the ancient, pious city of Bruges, where mist and rain color the channel in a constant shade of grey. In surroundings that reflect his innermost soul, Hugo hopes to sustain his grief and intensify the memories of his deceased wife. He spends his time wandering about the mists of the city, contemplating death and embracing his melancholic state of mind. Then, a chance encounter with a woman bearing a striking resemblance to his wife turns Hugo’s fantasies into mad obsession. This critically acclaimed production by LIN Mei Hong explores the hypersensitive human being, inner demons and the power of loving memory.
