Cuban virtuosic jazz pianist Chucho Valdés is the son of famed Bebo Valdés. He founded the band "Irakere" and created an explosive mixture of jazz, rock, classicism and traditional Cuban music. The band is considered the most important Cuban group in jazz history and it is the first Cuban group to win a Grammy award. Chucho Valdés has received other 5 Grammy awards and 15 nominations. He was hailed by the New York Times as "the Dean of Latin jazz," and was introduced by the Village Vanguard as "a hurricane approaching from the Caribbean."
