Hoping to provide an inspirational musical legacy for Taiwan, the Egret Foundation and Spring Culture Foundation jointly commissioned two works, Piano Concerto No. 1 and the symphony Four Impressions of My Motherland, from contemporary Taiwanese composers Gordon Chin and Deh-Ho Lai. In these original works, moving sounds of the piano conversing with the orchestra produces a beautiful and melodious concerto; the symphony incorporates elements of Nanguan and Beiguan operatic as well as aboriginal music, depicting a variety of landscapes in Taiwan. Also featured in this programme is young composer Ssu-Yu Huang's Red Moon, a fantastical picture of music that interprets an ancient legendary story. Artistic Director Günther Herbig conducts the NSO in this world premiere presentation of Taiwan's finest original music.
