Introduction
The first half of the concert features music which is inspired by African and Asian cultures while the second half celebrates Le Sacre du Printemps which brought about a huge impact on Western music in the early 20th century. Olivier Messiaen's Les offrandes oubliées (1931) is his first published orchestral piece. It was when Messiaen heard a performance of Indonesian Gamelan for the first time. Just like Debussy was deeply drawn to exotic rhythms and tones, Messiaen had developed a liking for percussion since then. Martin Grubinger made a splendid appearance in the 2010 Taiwan International Festival of Arts. This time he will return with Avner Dorman's Spices, perfumes , Toxins-Double Concerto for two percussionists and orchestra. This piece will draw the audience into the magic of Grubinger and Dorman.
