一八二六年，年僅十七歲的孟德爾頌受到莎士比亞名劇 《 仲夏夜之夢 》 的感動，以熱情浪漫的筆觸寫下樂劇 《 仲夏夜之夢 》 ，全劇音樂充滿活力與熱情，其中以 序曲最常被單獨拿出來演奏，絃樂輕巧跳躍的妖精主題與樂劇中出現的數個動聽的旋律，交織出一首幸福滿溢的樂曲 。 與貝多芬、布拉姆斯的《小提琴協奏曲》並列為「三大小提琴協奏曲」的孟德爾頌《小提琴協奏曲》，堪稱是所有小提琴協奏曲中最為動聽與溫暖的首選曲目，如果說貝多芬的《小提琴協奏曲》是亞當，那麼孟德爾頌《小提琴協奏曲》就必定是夏娃了！除了《 芬嘉爾洞窟 》序曲及《義大利》交響曲之外，《 蘇格蘭 》交響曲則是孟德爾頌另一首描繪愛丁堡風光的作品，在充滿詩人胸懷與畫家慧眼的 孟德爾頌 ，揮灑著管絃樂的彩筆，擘畫出浪漫樂派交響曲的名作，數度引用自蘇格蘭地方的民謠旋律，更增添《 蘇格蘭 》交響曲的異國風情。

Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, the son of a banker, knew a comfortably easy life, thus, accounting for his optimistic outlook. His classical upbringing and romantic inclination explain the poetic elegance of his music.

In 1826, when he was only 17, Mendelssohn was inspired by Shakespeare's Midsummer Night's Dream to compose an overture full of fervor and vitality. This Dream Overture , the most frequently played in concert of the entire work with additional items of incidental music, has a melody that is deeply moving and brimming with joy. Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto is considered, along with Beethoven's and Brahms' Violin Concertos , one of the “three major violin concertos.” If Beethoven's concerto is Adam, then Mendelssohn's is Eve. Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 3 - Scotch shows the poet and the painter in the German composer at work in capturing romantically Scotland's scenery. Scottish folk melodies add exotic touch to symphony.
All-around musician Shlomo Mintz conducts and performs violin in this repertoire. Violinist Mintz at age 11 collaborated with the Israel Philharmonic and at age 16 played at the Carnegie Hall.
