NTCH PERFORMANCE ART LIBRARY
Q:How may I gain access to the Performing Arts Library?
A:

The library’s collection may be accessed with a valid member card. For more details on loan regulations, please read the circulation services’ directions.

Q:Why are items such as periodicals, video tapes, or VCDs not available for checking out?
A:

1. Periodicals are significant for their timeliness and continuity. To ensure that readers may access the most updated and complete materials, neither current nor past issues of library periodicals are open for checking out.
2. Among the library’s audio-visual collection, only CDs and DVDs are currently open for checking out. Due to copyright issues and the scarcity of materials that easily go out of print, other materials such as LDs and video tapes are restricted to use in the library only so that more readers can access them.

Q:The Library’s collection of modern music CDs is rather limited. Why do I rarely find the materials I need?
A:

The library’s music collection does not include pop music, rock, or heavy metal. Due to the profuseness of musical publications, the library consults experts on purchases to balance among the subjects included in the collection, and will refer additionally to prestigious reviewing periodicals in the future. The library also welcomes you to provide us information on recommended purchases, so that its collection may further meet the needs of music lovers.

Q:I hear that the NTCH has a Performing Arts Library. Where is the Library? Where is the entrance?
A:

The library is on the basement floor of the National Theater and the entrance can be found through the underground parking lot.

Q:Why can’t the Library Catalog search system accept Chinese entries, and most searches have to be conducted in English?
A:

Chinese materials among the library’s collection can be found by entering Chinese in the search system. For materials in foreign languages, major columns such as title and author are transcribed as according to library cataloging rules to maintain the accuracy of the catalog due to the inconsistency of Chinese translation versions. Because problems are likely to occur with searches conducted in foreign languages other than English, the catalog’s information is listed mainly in English and therefore, searches must be conducted by English entries. For some of the video tapes, LDs, and audio-visual disks, translated Chinese titles and abstracts are provided to assist readers with their searches. Consequently, before searching for items in foreign languages, please find the corresponding English titles from the charts at the library’s online search area or from relative dictionaries. (For famous music pieces, please refer to World Music Dictionary or Musical Terms)
