Chicago-born jazz legend, composer, pianist Ramsey Lewis has been referred to as “the great performer,” a title reflecting his performance style and musical selections which display his early gospel playing and classical training along with his love of jazz and other musical forms. In 1960’ he was already one of the nation’s most successful jazz pianists. After his classic acoustic albums in the 60s, the change in the air during the 70s enticed Ramsey Lewis toward the electric realm. Sun Goddess, the result of this creative summit, is an album with sleek grooves and gorgeous melodies with collaboration. Ramsey Lewis has three Grammy Awards and seven gold records to his credit. He was also the recipient of “Jazz Masters Award” granted by the National Endowment for the Arts in 2007.
