National Chiang Kai Shek Culture Center (hereafter referred as the Center, which is also known as the National Theatre Concert Hall) is the most international and professional theatre in Taiwan for various performance venus and has received outstanding achievement in elevating local attention in art, establishing international exchange platform and cultivating the expertise in management skills. Since 2004, the Center marched into another era by transforming into a individual administrative institution. The first board (2007-2009) facilitated the connection between the old and new systems while reviving the Center. The second board(2007-2009) emphasized in the efficiency of an individual administrative system, international collaboration and the quality of the self-made programs. The third board is asking itself about how to improve the performance environment in Taiwan and deal with the pressure of economical efficiency with a fully equipped individual administrative institution model? The Center is carrying a higher expectation now than never.
In the future, the Center will keep on persuing perfection in professionalism and valuing the importance of experience-sharing. Within 3 to 5 years, several theatres in Taiwan will be ready for their openings and the Center shall provide knowledgeable staff with their well-practiced skills. We are still following the expectations of the previous boards and also developing new targets while continuously channeling ourselves to become a corporation. The plan for the upcoming three years are:
Local Base- continuously accumulate inner strength by producing quality performance, extend professional influence and stimulate the cultural balance between the urban and rural area. The Center will focus on “flagship production, creativity motivation, partnership connection”. Providing support and opportunity for domestic performance groups and individuals as usual while we solidifying the strategic alliance between other theatres through our marketing platform. We will promote the outstanging productions both in depth and dimensions, in order to develop the system of repertoire in the future.
International Sight- the Center will become the main connetion for international collaboration.
One of the core business for the Center is to invite the prominent groups and exceptional artists all over the world to Taiwan. The Center also encourages local performance groups to attend the seminars and workshops so that they can be more well-prepared for the international market. In the past experience under the model mentioned above, we built up a good reputation and elevated the ability of ourselves. In the future, we will keep on inviting more collaboration, building the artistic network, improving the visibility of the local artists, encouraging cultural exchange and exporting our singature productions.
Classic Production- Establishing of the brand image of quality performance and creating the classic productions for the Chinese world.
Series with its own themes like “ Summer Jazz”, “Dancing Autumn”, “International Theatre Festival”, “World View” and “Taiwan International Festival of Arts” has received positive feedbacks through out the years and has become the signature events of the Center. In the future, we will keep on developing these series in order to attract corporate fundings, strenghthen international marketing power so that we can become the key station in Asia for all the major touring performance.
Site Renovation- Sharing the space, preserving the historical material and molding the national cultural landscape.
After years of effort, we have successfully transformed our public space into a weekend relaxation for everyone. There are still more facilities ( such as the Performing Art Library and the Culture Gallary Corridor) needs promotion, and we will dedicate in combining the programs with these facilities like the Petit Forest Stage that just opened in July, 2010, the Vinyl Collection Room in the Performing Art Library and the Multimedia Art Space in the Theatre Hall, so that we can bring more audience to the Center for arts.
Experience Sharing- Documenting the business model of our experience into guidance publications, training programs and consultation services. Share our resources with other performance spaces. Wei Wu Ying Center for the Arts, Taichung Metropolitan Opera House, Taipei Metropolitan New Theatre, Taipei Art Center and other major performance spaces will start activate one after another in the following years, the Center will provide various courses for the public, so that every professional performance space will be equipped with skilled staff at their opening. The courses include program arrangement, marketing, stage management, theatre maintenance, front-desk service, safty management and other professional theatre programs. National Symphony Orchestra will establish NSO Music Academy and NSO Youth Orchestra in order to cultivate our future talents.
The Center also produced and invited numerous brilliant performance as a celebration for Rupublic of China Centennial. The Center has been here for more than twenty years, we are still challenging ourselves and our staff constantly so that we can march into a better future of performance arts. We are also facing the raising power of China and other areas of Asia, yet we will keep on realizing the policies, which will nutrilize Taiwanes Art and flourish on the international stage.
